Equal Opportunities Policy

We are fully committed to eliminating discrimination and actively promoting equality of opportunity for our staff. We believe that where equality of opportunity exists all staff and students work in a more rewarding and less stressful environment, one where prejudice and harassment are not accepted, and one more likely to enhance performance and achievement.

All employees/volunteers/students will be treated with dignity and respect and will be assisted to achieve their full potential. Creating Positive Opportunity will use its best endeavours to provide an inclusive and supportive working and studying environment free from unlawful discrimination, harassment or victimisation on the grounds of sex, age, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, race, colour, religion, ethnic or national origin.

In line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, Creating Positive Opportunity does not discriminate against Young or Ex-Offenders but actively recruits and welcomes their involvement in the project.

Creating Positive Opportunity will not tolerate acts which breach this policy and all instances of such behaviour or alleged behaviour will be taken seriously, fully investigated and may be subject to the disciplinary procedures of Creating Positive Opportunity. Creating Positive Opportunity further seeks to give all employees equal opportunity and encouragement to progress within the project. Any employee, volunteer or student who believes that they may have been subjected to treatment which breaches this policy may raise the matter through the grievance procedure of Creating Positive Opportunity.

Good relations

We recognise it is the responsibility of every member of our staff and students to help achieve this inclusive and supportive environment, and to promote good relations between groups by being tolerant and having respect for diversity.

Where there are instances of activity on which may undermine good relations, and to assist staff and students in maintaining a balance between individual freedoms and expectations of conduct.

Monitoring

Our policies and procedures in relation to both employees and students will treat individuals solely according to their ability.

We will ensure that we comply with all legislation and good practice by introducing, implementing and regularly reviewing policies and procedures. We will aim to review, monitor and action plan for compliance with legislation through our Diversity Strategy and action plans.

We work with the local community to tackle discrimination, promote diversity and disseminate good practice.

This policy applies to all colleagues who work on a paid or voluntary basis, all students, all visitors or contractors who visit our premises.
